You’ve just found out that you have to head out of town for the weekend and of course every boarding place you’re comfortable with is full. What do you do? You call Beth Dugan, the most reliable and experienced pet sitter in Atlanta.
Beth is one of those people who you can always count on when you have a problem. She is currently a vet tech at Lifeline Animal Clinic in Atlanta (yay Lifeline!) and takes care of dogs and cats all over Atlanta in her free time. She’s always on the go and is happy to help out however she can.

Live in Alpharetta or Roswell? You’ve got Newtown dog park nearby, but I can’t really say it will be of much use to you. It’s small and completely unused. I went at an off time, but only one other family came in with their two dogs while I was there. The park is small and set very close to Old Alabama Road. I wouldn’t have a problem with the location if the fences were as sturdy as those at Brook Run, but there are a lot of large gaps that have been poorly hidden by small rocks.
This park seems mostly geared towards small dogs to run around in even though they do have a separate designated area for small dogs. It’s just not big enough even for Autumn to run at full speed. It’s an odd somewhat L-shaped plot of land with virtually no shade for the dogs. There is a small pavilion and a small bench for the humans.

When I started looking for a daycare for Autumn, I had several key criteria that needed to be met. First of all, it had to have a good reputation as a caring and crate free doggy daycare service. Second, it had to be affordable. And third, it had to be somewhat close to my home and/or office. Lucky for me, I found all of three of these things at Puddle of Pooch. It’s affordable crate free doggy daycare with a reputation for being thoughtful and loving and it’s convenient to pretty much everything since it’s right by 85.
Puddle of Pooch is located at 1420 Mayson Street. If you’re heading from Buckhead towards the center of the city, it’s easy to hop off the Spring Buford connector and drop your precious pooch off. They’re open from 7am until 8pm most days. This is the only daycare service I’ve found that allows the dogs to go outside for extended periods of time during the day. There are so many good things about Puddle of Pooch it’s difficult to list them. So let’s start with the basics.

Pooch-friendly patio, pizza, gelato, and wine
Love Italian food? Love dog-friendly patios? Then you will absolutely LOVE Pizzeria Venti in Buckhead. A small restaurant tucked away on Lenox Road, Pizzeria Venti has great pizza, meatballs, and gelato. But the best part is that they are dog-friendly, kid-friendly, and event-friendly. You’ll love sitting outside on the beautiful shaded patio with your dog enjoying a bottle of wine and some bocce balls (fabulous meatballs baked in pizza dough).
The authentic Italian food is moderately priced and mouth wateringly good. The service is fantastic. It’s one of those order at the counter places, which typically I’m not crazy about, but Pizzeria Venti is unlike any other. The staff is attentive and courteous and seems genuinely happy to serve the guests.

Hey there- My name is Manny Blum. I’m an interface developer for a dog-friendly company in Atlanta called Definition 6. When Jacklyn asked me to write a guest post on Atlanta Dog Lovers about Autumn and her experiences with me at work, I couldn’t resist.
I started working for Definition 6 in September. Before interviewing, I had researched the company and learned that they allowed their employees to bring their dogs! When I interviewed I didn’t see many of them running around so I didn’t think anything of it. On my first day, I showed up excited about a fresh start with a large scale advertising company. But I can’t lie, I was hoping to see a dog or two running around the office. To my surprise, there were a lot more than two dogs running around!

If your dog is anything at all like mine, going to the vet is a long, emotional, heart breaking experience. I’d say that I dread making the trip as much as Autumn does. Choosing a vet that makes both you and your dog feel comfortable is extremely important. I spent a lot of time researching vets around the Buckhead/Midtown area when I adopted Autumn. I checked Yelp, talked to other dog owners, scoured Kudzu.com, and talked to a friend of mine who is a vet tech. The problem with user reviews is that they aren’t always accurate, eventually you’re going to have to take the plunge and check it out for yourself. So that’s exactly what I did.

Brook Run dog park, that is! There is really only one word that can even come close to describing this park, and that is ohmygoshthisisthegreatestparkwehaveeverbeento! We finally had a sunny day this weekend, which was a nice break from the rainy weekends we’ve been having for the last month or two. I couldn’t let it go to waste, I had to get out to the park with Autumn. She was starting to get stir crazy and took a liking to destroying household things.

Lounging around on a nice patio outside sipping on your favorite libation while your best friend is sitting at your feet- is there a better combination? If you’ve been to Treehouse Restaurant & Pub then you know what I’m talking about. Great food, great prices, great beverages, and great company!
Treehouse is nestled inside the Peachtree Hills neighborhood. If you’re driving quickly, you’ll probably miss it. It’s an old house converted into an open air patio and bar inside. It’s been serving Atlantans with a smile since 1986! Imagine my delight when I noticed that the relaxed patio is also pooch friendly! They’ve even got a water bowl on the patio for the dogs!

I don’t have any kids myself, but I think I have an idea of what the first day of kindergarten feels like as a parent. The first day I dropped Autumn off at Doggie Day Camp my eyes filled with tears when I handed Jason the leash. I watched him nervously from behind the glass, but he was brilliant with her. When she went inside, she made new friends instantly and forgot I even existed. I left feeling less uncomfortable than when I got there, but I still had no idea what to expect. When I came back that afternoon to pick her up, she was so tired, and so happy to see me. I was on cloud nine. I am so lucky and so grateful that I had the nerve to try Doggie Day Camp at PetSmart.

It all started Thursday night with the wintery weather we were having. The snowfall was beautiful, but the icy roads and freezing temperatures it left behind were far from beauty. The roads near me were so icy that I couldn’t leave my house Friday morning. Luckily I worked from home Friday and was able to spend the day playing in the powdery snow with Autumn. She didn’t care much for the ice, she had trouble figuring out why she kept slipping. The snow on the other hand, was fantastic fun and she liked biting it. That afternoon, the roads cleared up a bit and I made my way to Alpharetta to visit my parents and let Autumn run around with Jinx and Murray. That’s when it all started.
We had been there for less than 15 minutes when Murray came barreling through the doggy door limping. I checked his foot and discovered that he had snapped one of his toenails in half. It was hanging there and he was in a lot of pain. I convinced my mother to let me take him to the emergency vet (Animal Emergency Center of North Fulton- where he is a repeat visitor) to get his nail clipped off and bandaged. Thankfully, they were not busy! The vet was sweet, considerate, and super helpful with Murray that night. And we are so grateful. The worst part about that night was what we experienced in the waiting room while we were there.
